Recap: The Running Awards

A rare photo where I’m not in running gear!

Last week, I attended The Running Awards as one of the shortlisted bloggers in the Best Blog category. After 8 months of voting, and harassing you all to vote for me (thank you!), I managed to sneak on the shortlist of 12 really great bloggers, down from the original list of 55.

The event was hosted at the Indigo Bar at the O2 and it was a much larger venue and atmosphere than I really anticipated. I knew my chances of placing in the top 3 were low, but I was really honoured just to be there. I felt like an important blogger for the first time since I started writing this blog over 4 years ago.

As part of the experience, bloggers and their guests were invited to a pre-party where we had some drinks and mingled with the other shortlisters. We also got to meet the cool people from Dry Robe and try on their product, and some representatives from Totum, makers of an all-natural energy supplement made of sea water.

After an hour or so, we were invited into the event for the start of the awards. Again, I couldn’t believe the size of the event and to be honest, I felt like a bit of an imposter for being there. Dame Kelly Holmes was one of the presenters, and my blog was up against Ben Smith’s blog, the 401 Challenge. I literally just paid money to hear this guy speak a few weeks ago. Next to him, I didn’t stand a chance! Also, the awards didn’t even start until after 10:00pm! Way past my bedtime! Yes, I am a grandma.

Just before they announced the winners, they showed the logos of all the shortlisted bloggers in the category on a big screen. It was pretty cool to see Thoughts and Pavement listed alongside some of the best of the best.

Check out the bottom right!

Not surprisingly Ben won the Best Blog category. Well deserved. He is an inspiring guy.

That said, I did not go home empty handed. I took home a pretty awesome goodie bag filled with excellent treats for runners including loads of energy supplements and gels.

A big thank you to everyone who voted for me! I’ve got my sights set on the top 3 next year!
