Do You Wear Makeup to the Gym?

You’re probably thinking: what an outrageous question. What kind of vain, ridiculous person puts on foundation and mascara before working out? My usual routine involves waking up at 6 am, putting on some clothes I think are clean and leaving for the gym. Maybe I brush my hair. Most days, I can’t be sure.

But sometimes, just sometimes, I don’t want to look completely and totally terrible. Like on race day for example, when I know lots of pictures will be taken. My lips and eyebrows tend to disappear in photos even when I am wearing makeup, and I was once told I look like a tiny rodent without eye makeup on. It’s really not the look I want to be sharing with the world, and when you have a blog about running, pictures are a necessary part of the process.

And every so often, I find myself at the gym after work, and I really can’t be bothered to take my makeup off before working out. I just go for it.

All the time, I worry that my makeup, though possibly making me look less rodent-like, is actually harming my skin. Sweat + cosmetics is a terrible combination that can clog pores and lead to breakouts, acne and in some cases, unsightly rashes. Eek! In fact, when I was doing most of my workouts after work, I noticed that my skin was really bumpy and dull.

Recently, I started using some new products from Nude by Nature. My lovely friend Alexandra works for the company and kindly gifted me some samples. The company’s philosophy is “a foundation for better skin,” and their products are made from native Australian ingredients that actually benefit your complexion. It is makeup that is literally good for your skin! Ingredients like Kakadu Plum and avocado oil actually improve and enhance the appearance of your skin. Since I have started using the powders and foundations, my skin has never looked or felt better. While I don’t make a point of putting it on before a workout, if I happen to find myself on a run after work, I don’t notice the same adverse effects I did with my previous makeup. No clogged pores or breakouts. Just soft, clear skin!

My favourite product is the Radiant Loose Powder Foundation. This award-winning mineral powder is buildable and provides light to full coverage and SPF 15. It totally evens out my skin tone and lasts all day, even after a workout! It contains some cool ingredients like jojoba esthers and kaolin clay and it is dermatologically tested and good for sensitive skin.

When it comes to food, especially supplements for racing, we’re always looking for all-natural sources of energy. Why shouldn’t it be the same when it comes to skincare? Just like our food, our makeup shouldn’t be full of harsh, chemical-sounding ingredients that we can’t pronounce.

I can’t actually imagine myself going back to my old powders and foundations so it’s no wonder that Nude by Nature boasts the highest loyalty rate within the market. If you’re looking for a great product that is conducive to an active lifestyle, I highly recommend trying Nude by Nature. You can buy the products at Debenhams,  online from Asos or Feel Unique. Asos will also deliver for free to anywhere in the world!  Maybe something to add to your Christmas list this year?

I always wear mascara and eye shadow plus concealer on my dark circles, exercise or not! Especially at a race – I also like to wear some earrings and a necklace – usually one I got from a previous event. I don’t wear foundation but I would think it wouldn’t be great for your skin when you are sweating!

Love it. Mascara is key. I HATE going out in public without it!!! Being beautiful is hard work, isn’t it? 🙂

Mascara is the one cosmetic I would take to a deserted island!!
