The final countdown: race weekend speaker series

That time I met Olympic marathoner Reid Coolsaet... and by met, I mean, posed for this pic, and ran near him for about 30 seconds. He's in the middle in the red shirt.

This is it. A few short days till the big day. I basically fluctuate between feeling like superwoman and bursting into tears. This tapering is tough. But one way or another, this is happening. Even if I have to crawl on my hands and knees across that finish line, I’ll do it.

One consistent piece of advice I keep getting is to do things to take my mind off the race. So rather than pace around and worry the day before race day, I have an action packed agenda. I’ll be speaking on TWO panels as part of my role as a Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM) Digital Champion. The panels are part of the STWM Speaker Series, hosted by Canadian Running magazine. They take place at Exhibition Place in Exhibit Hall D at the Direct Energy Centre starting Friday afternoon. If you’re hitting up the race expo, make sure you drop by and say hi! Here are the details for Saturday, October 19:

11:30-11:50: Hashtag STWM: Building an Online Running Community

Alongside four other amazing Digital Champs, we’ll be talking about how we used social media to connect and support each other through our training the last several months.

3:30-3:50: Leading the Pack: Women and Marathon Training

On this panel, I’ll sit alongside three other female marathoners and we’ll talk about the awesomeness of women and running.

There’s loads of other speakers and panels throughout the day including talks from Olympic marathoner Reid Coolsaet on training in Kenya, and John Stanton, founder and CEO of the Running Room.

To check out the full schedule, go here.

Hope to see you at the Expo!

UPDATE (October 19, 2013, 5:58 PM): Great day at the Expo today! Thank you to everyone who came out to hear all the Digital Champions talk today. Here’s a picture from the final panel of the Expo: Women and Marathon training where I look like a very important person. Thanks to my fellow panelists Lisa Davidson (@TorontoFitMom), Christa Davidson (@ChristaDavidson) and Andie Clement (@AndieTheFitGeek). Bring on #STWM. I think I’m finally ready.

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed my blog. It was a good run for me generally. Definitely the hardest thing I have ever done, but so worth it. Crossing the finish line was epic.
