Girls on the Run: “Learn, dream, live, run.”

Girls-on-the-Run-LogoIf you take a look at the Girls on the Run website, you’ll be greeted by a girlie colour scheme complete with stars, butterflies and flowers. You’ll also see lots of smiling, happy girls and this tagline: “Learn, dream, live, run.” How awesome is that?

What exactly is this organization with the heart warming tagline, you ask? Well, some of you may remember that back in November, I wrote about how I would be volunteering with Girls on the Run this year. This awesome charitable organization has created an after-school program for girls in Grades 3-8 that helps improve self esteem, health and confidence through a 10 week program that creatively integrates running. The program ultimately ends in a 5km run or walk in the Spring.

I am so excited to help with this year’s event. I’m excited to volunteer for something I feel passionately about, and I’m excited to help with something that I think will really make a difference in these girls’ lives. I’m looking forward to meeting some of the girls and cheering them on during the final event in June. I’m hoping that running will inspire them.

Take a look at this video that was created with some of last year’s participants. It will warm your heart:

Registration for Spring 2013 is now open. If you know a girl in Grades 3-8 in the GTA, consider registering them for this program. The program runs for 10 weeks for 2 days a week from April till June. You can find out more details on their website, or you can register online here.
