With Christmas only a few days away, I’m sure you’ve noticed a surplus of tasty (read: bad for you!) treats lying around. Whether its gift baskets at the office, homemade cookies or too many nights out at festive gatherings, I’m sure you’ve noticed that it’s a lot harder to eat well this time of year. Before you know it, you’ve eaten 90 cookies and you feel more like watching Christmas specials on TV than lacing up your shoes and going for a run.
Certainly as runners, we all know the importance of eating well, so before we go off to eat, drink and be merry this season, I wanted to leave you with some of my favourite, not-so-bad for you treats: the festive Christmas smoothie. Smoothies are a healthier way to add sweets for the holidays without all the sugar! Yum! Here’s a few of my favourites:
- You can try this lovely red and green pomegranate smoothie (garnished with a candy cane, of course), or this colourful green raspberry smoothie.
- My favourite is the Christmas morning smoothie, made with avocado and strawberries
- And for those that want to indulge (‘tis the season, afterall!), you can try the perennial favourite: the egg nog smoothie.
