Superman = Super run

A few weeks ago, I decided I needed to update my running playlist. I decided to do a little crowd-sourcing and ask for suggestions on Twitter. I got a lot of decent suggestions – everything from current top 40 hits to some classic rock tunes. However, my favourite suggestion was from @PeterKambasis:

Best songs for running

Clearly this is an epic way to start a run and an amazing suggestion for my new, updated playlist. Looking forward to kicking off my second half marathon with this classic tune:

Do you have any other suggestions for my running playlist?

    Hi Miranda– Your post caught my eye as I enjoyed the Superman movies and have high hopes for the re-boot coming soon. Have you looked into watching the Beats Per Minute (BPM) of songs? This version of Superman is only at 114 bpm and most runners have strides that match beats of around 140 – 190 bpm. Still would work for motivational warm-up (“Chariots of Fire” works well for that too). There has been a lot of research done that the “right” music can improve your running and I have over 60 hrs of running music all set up by BPM (beats per minute) to match w/ your pace. I’m also careful w/ lyrics and only pick songs that are inspirational, about running, or at least are fun w/ great beat (no “19th Nervous Breakdown”, “Loser”, “Blister in the Sun”, etc.) It’s pretty eclectic, and you can check it out at:

      Hey John,

      Thanks a lot for the suggestion! I’ve also heard that bpm can be important for running music. I don’t pay a lot of attention to it, but I definitely notice certain songs have an effect on my average pace. I’ll have to pay attention to that as I compile the rest of my playlist for my upcoming half marathon! Will definitely check out your blog too. Thanks for the suggestion!
