Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Miranda and welcome to my new blog: Thoughts and Pavement. By day, I work as a Social Media Manager. In my free time, I write, travel the world, practice photography and drink tea. But most of all, I run.
I didn’t always run. In fact, running used to be a hobby I did once annually. I’d train for one 10km race a year and that was it. But last year, something happened – something that fueled my passion for running and my passion for writing about running.
I started writing for a blog for Nike. The goal was to write about my experience training for my first half marathon. When the half marathon was over, I kept writing for the blog and continued running and writing for almost 15 months. Recently that blog ended. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. Writing for that blog was an incredibly rewarding experience and I was unbelievably sad to see it end. After I got over my initial sadness, I realized that continuing this hobby was totally within my own power and control. Thank you WordPress.
I imagine that anyone reading this post today already knows me. I expect that my initial readers are probably all friends or family so this introduction might be a bit redundant. However, it is my hope that one day, this blog might be something a little bigger than a place for me to post my thoughts and tips about running. I hope it will be a place where people can ask questions and have discussions about running, and a place where I can invite other runners or experts to contribute.
So what’s with the name? This was not chosen lightly. I wanted to make sure the name – while focused on running – was also broad enough to include other topics and other writers as well. I’d like to give a huge shout-out to Jamie of Sanga Retreats for coming up with the name. A million thank yous. (You’ll hear more about Jamie in future posts. Stay tuned!)
